Cody D.

As a millennial Veteran transitioning out of the military, Cody's story is one that resonates deeply with many of us. His journey from feeling lost and unsupported to finding hope and guidance through Still Serving Veterans (SSV) is a testament to the power of effective resources and supportive communities.

When Cody first left the military, like many of us, he was told about the myriad of resources available to Veterans. However, he soon found himself feeling disillusioned after experiencing a lack of tangible support from traditional avenues. In his own words, "I tried all the resources at the VA and they just... weren't really getting me any results."

It wasn't until Cody discovered Still Serving Veterans that he found the assistance he needed. Through SSV, Cody connected with Steve, who went above and beyond to provide personalized guidance and support. From helping him refine his resume to offering invaluable insights for interviews, Steve's dedication left a lasting impression on Cody.

Reflecting on his initial interactions with Steve, Cody shared, "It made me feel good talking to him because he was like, 'Man, when I first got out, I worked at GameStop.'... [He] made me feel better because I was... feeling down about myself." This relatable connection played a pivotal role in Cody's journey towards finding meaningful employment post-service.

For Cody, the difference with Still Serving Veterans was clear. Unlike his previous experiences, SSV offered more than just a list of links and resources – it provided genuine human connection and tailored support. As Cody expressed, "Mainly because... I actually got to talk to someone instead of just... them just sending me to this link here and... sending me to another link there."

Now, thanks to the assistance he received from Still Serving Veterans and Steve, Cody has not only regained his confidence but has also secured job opportunities that align with his skills and aspirations. "I even passed the interview at... Coca-Cola... they didn't take me for the position I wanted, but they did offer me another position just because I did so well in the interview," Cody shared proudly.

Cody's journey serves as a reminder to fellow Veterans that help is available, and organizations like Still Serving Veterans are here to provide the personalized support needed to navigate life beyond the military. His advice to other Veterans? "Reach out to Stephen Hartley... I just want to... commend him mainly."

While we think Steve is great, the whole SSV team does their job well. Every single career coach is a Veteran and can relate to your journey on several different levels. Be it job search strategies, resume and cover letter help or just needing an accountabilibuddy - we have your back.
