As of 2/8/13
More than 2.3 million U.S. Service Members have been deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq since September 11, 2001. After more than 11years of war in Afghanistan and Iraq, our returning Service Members and their families need a wide range of support services: from counseling for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and substance abuse to higher educationand job placement; from health and wellness services to economic and workforce opportunities as well as support for continuing education. Still Serving Veterans (SSV) was founded in 2005 and is based in Huntsville, AL. Our mission is to empower Veterans and their families to transition into post-military lives through: · Outreach & education– assistance in obtaining all VA benefits & training for meaningful new careers · Individual advocacy & case management support · Community partnerships with Veteran Service Organizations for quality referrals & to avoid duplications · Long-term career development & employment placement through effective corporate partnerships SSV bridges the gaps by helping Veterans assess their vocational and counseling needs and then connecting those Veterans with existing federal, state, and local support services. Our critical asset is our thorough knowledge of what services are available and the processes for obtaining those services combined with the professional case workers who understand the unique needs of our Nation’s Heroes. Providing a lifetime of caring and support for our entire Military Family is an immense undertaking, well beyond the resources and intellectual capital of any single organization. We, as a nation, must build key partnerships and link national and local community efforts to transform this unbridled “Sea of Transition” into a navigable “Sea of Goodwill.” The sea is vast; it is easy to be overwhelmed and swallowed. There must be a force capable of harnessing the swells in this “Sea of Transition.” With your help, SSV can continue to be that force.
