Still Serving Veterans (SSV) is unique nationally as an agency that delivers the reintegration services to our Veterans. Since 2006, SSV has helped well over 5,000 Veterans and has secured over $67 million in additional benefits and salaries. Recently, SSV was selected by the Army as a National Pilot Site for the Veteran Education Transition Initiative (VETI). SSV has strong community linkages and the SSV President serves on numerous boards and committees in Madison County. SSV is also strongly linked to the Redstone Arsenal Army Base and are a lead partner in the Military Morale, Welfare and Recreation program. SSV also has strong ties to the local defense and contractors and provides resumes of potential Veterans seeking employment monthly and has ties to the local University of Alabama in Huntsville and Drake Technical College which allows SSV to provide educational support and assistance to Veterans. Because of the numerous connections SSV has with local and national agencies, they have been selected to serve as the hub for Veteran services in North Alabama and are responsible for directing Veterans needing resources outside of SSVs capabilities to appropriate organizations.

Taking on this responsibility is a monumental task that is essential to fully servicing Veterans – there are 293 Veteran Service organizations within a 30 mile radius of Birmingham (WarriorGateway.org) and the majority of these are unknown to the Veterans that need these services. On top of that, an astounding 51% of eligible Veterans do not take advantage of VA benefits leaving an estimated $880 million of unused Government Benefits (these include Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), Pell Grants, Medical, etc. for our Veterans).
